Katie has chosen!

I’ve been a little worried about Katie. She and several members of her family had been sick. Flu-like symptoms are bad enough, but during our current pandemic they can be pretty scary. Also, she seemed to be leaning heavily toward one college, but wanted to delay her decision until the end of May. I thought maybe she was having doubts. Katie has allayed my fears, though. Read the full interview below to see how she’s feeling and where she’s going to college. Congratulations, Katie!

Meet the Class gets updated each month from September to May. Each installment features an interview about both the facts and the feelings of where the student is in the process.

Katie ATTENDS A Private Christian HIGH SCHOOL IN Ohio

How are you and your family? Is everyone feeling better? It's got to be scary to be sick right now, even if it's not from Coronavirus.

We are all feeling better and doing well. It has been quite a bit more enjoyable being stuck inside without us all being sick.

How's school going? Will you be back in physical school before the year is out, or will it all be at home until the end? Will you have a graduation? How do you feel about that?

School is great. Yesterday, I just finished all my college classes, which was amazing. Now, I just have two more high school classes until I finish school in a few weeks. We are out of school for the rest of the semester. Our graduation has not been canceled yet, so we are waiting to see what our governor says. I am disappointed not being able to see a lot of the people in my class because there are a lot of people I know I'm not going to talk to them again. I would like to have an actual graduation, but there are other moments where I'm not sure I do.

You said you weren't making a decision or deposit by May 1st--lost of colleges pushed back their decision date until June 1. Are you still waiting, or did you change your mind and commit to someplace?

I actually committed to North Dakota State a few days ago. I'm so so excited about it and cannot wait to move across the country. I just wanted to make a decision because it was stressing me out not having made one, so I did. I am really happy with my decision.

By some counts, close to 20% of college-bound seniors have decided to put college off for at least a year until the fallout from Covid-19 settles more. Is that something you're considering?

I am not considering this. This is one of the biggest decisions I will be able to make, and I was determined to make a good decision about my future.

Have there been any other developments in the past month? Anything I didn't ask that I should have?

I am now dealing with all the things that happen after college commitment. I'm figuring my housing and financial aid. It has been really fun, and I am getting super excited about next fall. This entire process has been so crazy, but I have learned so much about myself and gotten so much better at my craft.
