Tyra has great news!

Tyra’s check-ins have gone from “everything’s a mess” to “things are beginning to calm down” to—this month—”I’m so excited!” Tyra’s engaged in school, has been accepted to college, and is passing knowledge and skills along to younger students. Read the full interview below.

Meet the Class gets updated each month from September to May. Each installment features an interview about both the facts and the feelings of where the student is in the process.

Interviews may be edited lightly for clarity and grammar. Names may be changed to protect privacy.

How was your Thanksgiving? Is there anything you're particularly thankful for this year? And what are your plans for the longer winter break at the end of this month?

My Thanksgiving was alright. We went to more of a friendsgiving this year instead of the usual family meeting. I am super thankful for my mother and how she is always by my side, through everything. This winter break I will most likely get eight teeth removed in order to get braces. My four wisdom teeth and four molars because my teeth are super crowded. Other than that, I just hope to take a break and enjoy my last Christmas in my home town before going to college.

Any news? Did you hear back from your top-choice school? What about the Plan-B waitlist? How are you feeling about your plans for next year right now?

I did! I got into the vet tech program and I am so excited. I found out mid-November and have been excited ever since. I am still waitlisted for my Plan B school, but I just applied there as a back up and will not follow through with that school. A lot is still in the air in terms of classes and what Corona will do to learning which does make me nervous.

Have you made any changes to your plans for this spring or next year? Or are things pretty set?

Things are set solid. I am just waiting for spring so I can apply to housing and hopefully will receive scholarships and be able to pay for it even though I come from a single-parent household.

How's speech going? How's yearbook going--are the newbies getting into the swing of things? How are classes going?

Speech has just began and I am super excited. We can have in person contests at our own school and that makes me excited. I am in one act play and choral reading. I hope to go out with a bang for my final year. The speech newbies are doing well, I am just getting used to being a veteran of sorts and being able to help them when they need it.
