For Three Quick Questions, I send the same three questions to admissions representatives at colleges all over the country (the subject line of the e-mail is “Three quick questions”), and then I hope to hear back from them. When I do, I post them on Apply with Sanity. It’s that simple.

The three questions are meant to probe some of the things that make a school unique but that aren’t easily captured as a stat to go in a book or web search.

This response is from Abby Vidmer, Admission Counselor at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina.

What is a course, tradition, program or event that is unique to Davidson College?

The freshman cake race is my favorite tradition at Davidson. The first year students run/jog/walk a loop around campus and the first 200 or so students get to choose a homemade cake baked by a faculty or community member.

Naturally every college wants to recruit the perfect student--high grades, high test scores, involved in their community, leadership...everything. But what kinds of imperfect students tend to flourish at Davidson?

I would say students who are very passionate and open-minded tend to flourish at Davidson. I think the college attracts students who are truly looking for a liberal arts education but active learning outside of the classroom. The experiential learning opportunities in the community, research, and innovative spaces constantly impress me!

When people come to visit Davidson, what's a place off campus that you recommend they check out while they're there?

The Famous Toastery is one of restaurants I recommend as it is in the heart of down town with a menu of breakfast and lunch items, and a warm and friendly atmosphere! I also love Whit’s ice cream down the road just past the downtown area and the Buckeye whitser is my go-to order!
