Jenna's getting close to finished

Jenna, who has been accepted to at least 10 universities, has narrowed her list down to the final two. She has some time to think it over and ask questions, and now—like so many others—she’s at home instead of school for social distancing. Read the full interview below!

Meet the Class gets updated each month from September to May. Each installment features an interview about both the facts and the feelings of where the student is in the process.

Interviews may be edited lightly for clarity and grammar. Names may be changed to protect privacy.

Jenna ATTENDS A Public HIGH SCHOOL IN Michigan

Have you started to narrow things down? Have you officially told any of the schools who accepted you "no" yet? Have you eliminated any options, or are you still juggling a lot?

I have narrowed things down to Wayne State and Central Michigan. I haven't told any other school "no" yet until I officially make a deposit to one of the two schools.

Speaking of options, how does it feel to have so many options left? I imagine that can be empowering and quite the confidence booster. Has that been your experience? Is there any anxiety over still having to make the decision? What are you feeling about all of this right now?

I'm feeling nervous about having so many options at this point. Yes its great I've been accepted to these schools but I also can't help but wonder if I'm making the right choice. It’s a lot to think about now that it’s getting into the final months and I still have questions that need to be answered to feel satisfied in my final decision.

Does high school feel like it's beginning to wind down yet? How engaged are you in 12th grade? Has the college search and the near future taken over a lot of your energy that would normally go to high school?

High school does feel like it’s beginning to wind down just a bit. I've noticed in a lot of the seniors some are either completely indulging themselves in college already and some are just trying to finish out the year. Personally, I'm a little more involved in school still, but as new information comes my way I do sit down and talk to my mom about it all since it’s something that can't exactly be avoided.

How will you make your final decision? Are Wayne and Central still the frontrunners, or have things changed? Who do you go to for advice on making the final decision?

I think the way I will make my final decision is based more on the cost right now. I am leaning slightly more towards Wayne because right now, I don't have a car to get to Central or a job. Plus they've offered me the most in scholarship, and even though Central's scholarship offer is close to Wayne's it's not enough considering I will probably not be rooming at Wayne verses Central, where I'd have to figure out a way to come up with the money to room and board. It's something I'm still thinking about right now whether I wish to or not but I'm not really sure.

Your list, as it stood last month:

Central Michigan University--accepted

Eastern Michigan University--accepted

Henry Ford Community College

Long Island University--accepted

Madonna University--accepted

Michigan Tech University--accepted

Northern Michigan University--accepted

Oakland University--accepted

Roosevelt University--accepted

University of Michigan Dearborn--accepted

Wayne State University--accepted

Any changes to that you haven't already discussed?

There's no changes to the list as of right now :)

Anything else?

As of last night (3-12-20) all Michigan schools have been closed down due to the virus. I'm now going to be home until April 13th so I have about a month off. I'm really upset a lot of events got cancelled that many look forward to every year, and other seniors here don't get to enjoy our last year. But it’s understandable considering the virus is going around.
