Three quick questions with Trinity University

For Three Quick Questions, I send the same three questions to admissions representatives at colleges all over the country (the subject line of the e-mail is “Three quick questions”), and then I hope to hear back from them. When I do, I post them on Apply with Sanity. It’s that simple.

The three questions are meant to probe some of the things that make a school unique but that aren’t easily captured as a stat to go in a book or web search.

This response is from Gail Roberson, Director of Admissions—Houston Recruitment at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

What is a course, tradition, program or event that is unique to Trinity University?

Just one!?  I'll highlight one of our newest majors: Global Latinx Studies.  The major in Global Latinx studies offers students an interdisciplinary analysis of the Latinx experience from past to present, with an emphasis on exchange programs, internships and the wealth of our hometown, San Antonio.

Naturally every college wants to recruit the perfect student--high grades, high test scores, involved in their community, leadership...everything. But what kinds of imperfect students tend to flourish at Trinity?

Oh goodness...perfect is boring! At Trinity, we hope to attract and retain students who are curious, committed, aware and engaged.  As a residential campus with an aim to support the academic, social and emotional well being of our students, we WANT to see students that will push us, change us and lead our community forward.

When people come to visit San Antonio, what's a place off campus that you recommend they check out while they're there?

Of course, you would expect the answer to be the historic Alamo or perhaps the touristy Riverwalk (both of which are meaningful and memorable), but personally, I'd make sure that I'd stop by The Pearl.  This area is revitalization and adaptive reuse at its best!  The Pearl was a defunct brewery that is seeing its second life for independent shops, restaurants, book stores, farmers' markets and more.  Make sure you order a Mexican Vanilla Latte at Local Coffee.  Yum.

Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed this post, here are three easy things you can do:

  1. Share it on your social media feeds so your friends and colleagues can see it too.

  2. See which other colleges and universities answered the questions.

  3. Is there a school you’d like to hear from? Let me know, and I’ll make sure they get the questions.

Apply with Sanity doesn’t have ads or annoying pop-ups. It doesn’t share user data, sell user data, or even track personal data. It doesn’t do anything to “monetize” you. You’re nothing but a reader to me, and that means everything to me.
